Colangelo tied for third in both goals and points among all USHL skaters this past season. Even more impressively, he did so in fewer games than those ahead of him, and as a result, he led the league with 1.32 points per contest among those who played at least 20 contests.
He has also proven himself on the international stage while representing the United States, scoring twice in five games at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and helping his country claim bronze at the 2019 World Junior A Challenge with a goal and an assist in six contests.
NHL Central Scouting slotted Colangelo 31st among North American skaters on his final rankings this season after placing him 33rd at the midterm.
The Massachusetts-born winger has committed to play for Northeastern University in Boston for the 2020-21 campaign.
What they're saying
"(He) has great skill and is a high-end goal scorer," The Athletic's Corey Pronman wrote in his rankings of the top draft prospects. "He can pick corners from bad angles and is a mid-distance shooting threat. He passes the puck very well, finding seams and setting up chances consistently. His skill level doesn't pop often, but he has very good hands and can make plays through defenders."
Pronman added that the knocks against Colangelo have historically been his skating and compete level, though the forward showed an improvement in the latter area this past season.
