Ex-Cav Moon: LeBron leaving for Miami was 'like 1 long funeral'
July 8, 2010, is a date many Cleveland Cavaliers fans won't forget, as it was the day LeBron James announced he was leaving his hometown team to join the Miami Heat.
Former NBA guard Jamario Moon, who was teammates with James during the 2009-10 season, reflected on the star's departure and its impact on fans on a recent episode of the "Scoop B Radio" podcast.
"It was like one long funeral, bro," Moon said. "It was like just everything - I'm serious, bruh, it was like the air just got sucked out of everybody, like, 'Man, I can't believe this.' But I think the fans ... they were hurt. ... Like, LeBron was married to them and he cheated on them or something."
James rejoined the Cavs in 2014 and went on to lead the team to its first NBA championship.
"I'm so happy that man came back and got that championship for them fans," Moon said. "Because those fans in Cleveland were loyal, boy. When LeBron left, I think we lost like 26 straight or something. We had a long losing streak and when LeBron came back and flipped the switch and got them on the winning side, I know they had to be like, 'Yes! Thank you!' But those fans were there the whole time."
