Giolito: 'I don't think anyone feels 100% comfortable' with return

Major League Baseball teams are expected to reconvene in less than one week to prepare for the shortened season, and one Cy Young contender doesn't believe any of the players are particularly delighted about the circumstances.

"I don't think anyone feels 100% comfortable going in," Chicago White Sox ace Lucas Giolito said, according to James Fegan of The Athletic. "It's a pandemic."

The league ratified earlier this week the parameters of a 60-game season to be played beginning either July 23 or 24, with camps opening July 1.

A report suggests high-risk players will be able to sit out the season and still get paid. Some other players not deemed high-risk may also still choose to opt out.

The roster freeze caused by the ongoing crisis was lifted Friday at noon ET, allowing teams to prepare their personnel ahead of camps opening on Wednesday.

Giolito went 14-9 last year, authoring a 3.41 ERA and 3.43 FIP over 176 2/3 innings to finish sixth in American League Cy Young voting.
