Gronk, Bucs replacing HS football team's equipment destroyed by fire
Rob Gronkowski and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are stepping up to help a local high school football team that lost its equipment in a fire in May.
Gronkowski posted a video message on Instagram announcing that his Gronk Nation Youth Foundation and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Foundation will send new football equipment to Blake High School.
The fire broke out at the school on May 16, destroying a storage shed that contained the football team's equipment, according to Heather Monahan and Gabrielle Shirley of WFLA. An estimated $11,000 worth of equipment was lost.
Kavon Willingham, a senior player on the team, said he was "shocked" by the gesture from Gronkowski and the Bucs.
"I was amazed - like, Gronkowski, he just came down here from New England, and he thinks of us like this, the community. I was happy," he said. "It was unfortunate what happened at Blake. For him to even think about it and the Bucs, very happy, I appreciate it."
