More than 9,000 people have signed a petition asking the NFL to move next year's Super Bowl forward one day.

The Change.org petition, titled "Change Super Bowl 55 to Saturday," was created by New York teenager Frankie Ruggeri, according to Newsweek's Dan Cancian.

Ruggeri believes that moving Super Bowl LV from Sunday to Saturday will bring in more money for the NFL and allow more children to enjoy the game.

"He was persistent, very persistent, and he really believed it was a good cause," the 16-year-old's father, Frank, said. "So I said, 'Frankie, go for it. Do what you gotta do.'"

Despite the support Ruggeri has received, it's unlikely the NFL will make the switch anytime soon.

"That (idea) has been around for a long time, people have talked about that," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in 2018. "The reason we haven't done it in the past is simply just from an audience standpoint. The audiences on Sunday night are so much larger. Fans want to have the best opportunity to be able to see the game and we want to give that to them, so Sunday night is a better night."

Super Bowl LV is scheduled to be played Feb. 7, 2021, in Tampa.
