The Philadelphia Phillies are pursuing free-agent shortstop Didi Gregorius, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.

Philadelphia's incumbent shortstop, Jean Segura, would either change positions or be traded if the club were to land Gregorius, Morosi adds.

Gregorius, who played under new Phillies manager Joe Girardi during his tenure with the New York Yankees, missed nearly two-and-a-half months to begin last season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. The 29-year-old hit .238/.276/.441 with 16 homers and two stolen bases over 82 games.

Over 270 games between 2017-18, however, the left-handed hitter posted a 115 wRC+ and was the third-best shortstop in baseball, according to FanGraphs' WAR.

The Cincinnati Reds were previously tied to Gregorius, who was not tendered a qualifying offer by the Yankees and is, therefore, not attached to draft-pick compensation.

Segura, meanwhile, had a down year last season, as the 29-year-old hit .280/.323/.420 with 12 homers and 10 steals. He was acquired by the Phillies last winter from the Seattle Mariners along with Juan Nicasio and James Pazos in exchange for Carlos Santana and J.P. Crawford.
