Wade denies he carried Shaq in response to Lillard's diss track
Dwyane Wade came to Shaquille O'Neal's defense after Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard threw shade at the Big Aristotle in a diss track.
In "Reign Reign Go Away," which Lillard dropped Wednesday in response to a diss track from the Hall of Fame center, he suggests that Wade and the Miami Heat didn't need Shaq to win a championship in 2006.
"Said yourself that I'm a Tesla, no longer need diesel gas / Kinda like the Cavs ain't really need Diesel ass / And even in Miami, won that on the strength of Flash," Lillard raps, referencing Wade's nickname.
Wade, however, disputed that notion.
"No, not at that time, no," Wade told TMZ Sports when asked if he thinks he could've won the title without Shaq. "I was young in the league trying to figure it out. I needed somebody like Shaq to help me, give me the keys and let me drive the car. I appreciate him for doing that."
Wade added that the rap battle is "nothing personal" and simply "lyrics put on a piece of paper and put on a microphone."
