Lyles bests De Grasse for 200m gold in Doha
American Noah Lyles met his lofty expectations, capturing gold in the men's 200m final to round out Day 5 at the 2019 IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar.
The 22-year-old's time of 19.83 seconds edged out Canada's Andre De Grasse, who finished in 19.95 for silver. De Grasse earned his second medal at the 2019 worlds following a bronze in the 100m event.
Ecuador's Alex Quinonez won bronze with a time of 19.98, finishing five-hundredths of a second ahead of the 20.03 season-best performance by Great Britain's Adam Gemili. Quinonez became the first South American to reach the 200m podium since Brazil's Claudinei da Silva in 1999.
