Stephen A.'s alma mater creates student-athlete scholarship in his name

Before he was delivering hot takes on ESPN, Stephen A. Smith was playing basketball at Winston-Salem State University under Hall of Fame coach Clarence "Big House" Gaines.

Returning to his alma mater Friday for HBCU Week, Smith was reunited with some of his former teammates and surprised with an announcement that the school is creating the Stephen A. Smith Scholarship for Student-Athletes in his honor.

Smith, who graduated from WSSU in 1991, has repeatedly made contributions to his alma mater, most recently donating $25,000 to the school's athletics department.
