David Luiz trained away from Chelsea's first team on Wednesday after making it clear that he wants to join Arsenal, according to The Telegraph's Matt Law.

Arsenal are yet to make an offer for the 32-year-old, Goal correspondent Nizaar Kinsella reported, while adding that the interest is genuine.

Luiz just signed a new two-year contract with the Blues, who made an exception to their longstanding policy of limiting players over 30 to one-year deals.

But the Evening Standard's Simon Johnson believes Luiz is concerned he won't get much playing time under newly appointed manager Frank Lampard. Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen are expected to start against Manchester United in Chelsea's first Premier League match of the season on Sunday.

There are obvious reasons why the Brazilian would favor a move to Arsenal. Luiz forged a good relationship with manager Unai Emery during their short time together at Paris Saint-Germain.

"I had the opportunity to work with Unai for a few months. He's a great guy, a great coach, a great person," Luiz said in May. "He's passionate. He loves his work. He likes to build teams who are spirited, play with passion, and you can see that."

There's also a clear opportunity to become an undisputed starter at the Emirates. Arsenal have made little progress on the defensive front - RB Leipzig's Dayot Upamecano and Juventus' Daniele Rugani remain options - and only have another 24 hours to complete signings.
