FIBA suspends player after using pregnant woman's urine for drug test

Former Ohio University guard D.J. Cooper received a two-year suspension from FIBA in 2018 for a reason sure to raise some eyebrows.

While attempting to join the Bosnian national team as a naturalized player, Cooper underwent a drug test that later revealed he was pregnant, according to Eurohoops.net. The urine sample Cooper provided showed the presence of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), a hormone produced by the placenta after impregnation.

RTV reports the urine belonged to Cooper's girlfriend. He was subsequently suspended for fraud and will be eligible to return June 20, 2020.

Cooper started 138 games for Ohio from 2009-13 and averaged 14.5 points, 6.5 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per contest. He has played for several teams overseas since going undrafted, most recently suiting up for Monaco of the Pro A league.
