Teen sensation Kean makes leap to Everton for €27.5M
Moise Kean has stepped out of Cristiano Ronaldo's shadow and into the spotlight at Goodison Park.
The highly rated 19-year-old striker left Juventus for Everton on Sunday in a deal worth an initial €27.5 million, the Italian club announced. The fee could rise to €30 million if certain bonuses are achieved.
Kean signed a five-year contract with the Toffees, who made the Italian international their fifth signing of the summer.
Juventus reportedly have the option to match any offers Everton may receive for Kean in the future.
“I was convinced to sign because Everton is a club looking to the future and so am I," Kean said in a statement. "I know about the size of the club. It has big ambition and I will work very hard to help us fulfill what we want to achieve."
"I am used to winning and I want to bring this winning attitude to the team. I hope I will be very good on the field and bring the fans joy."
Kean, who spent his formative years in Juventus' youth system, rose to stardom in the 2018-19 season, coming off the bench to score key goals and help Juventus win an eighth consecutive Serie A title. He was also a victim of racism in May when Cagliari supporters directed monkey noises toward him and former teammates Alex Sandro and Blaise Matuidi.
Italy coach Roberto Mancini saw enough potential and maturity in the teenager to hand him starts in Euro 2020 qualifiers against Finland and Liechtenstein. Kean rewarded Mancini's faith with goals in each match.
A lethal finisher with fantastic dribbling ability and pace on the counterattack, Kean is now expected to lead Marco Silva's attack in England. Cenk Tosun, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Oumar Niasse are also available in the center-forward position.
