Paris Saint-Germain added some midfield depth with the capture of Idrissa Gueye from Everton on Tuesday, the two sides announced.

The fee for the Senegal international is worth £29 million (€32 million), according to The Guardian, though neither team has officially disclosed the terms.

After signing a contract that runs until 2023, Gueye explained why he was eager to join the French club following three years at Goodison Park.

“I wanted to give a new boost to my club career by joining Paris Saint-Germain, one of the most structured and ambitious sports projects in Europe," Gueye told the team's website, via the Guardian.

The 29-year-old, who returns to France following seven seasons at Lille, made 108 appearances at Everton after his transfer from Aston Villa in 2016 for a reported £8 million fee.

Gueye also thanked Everton fans for their support.

"Everton FC gave me the opportunity to continue in the Premier League and the last 3 years... I have had some amazing experiences which I will cherish forever," he said. "I am grateful to have had the love and support of you all throughout this journey and I must say no matter the weather or performances the support was always there."

He also represented Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations, helping the country reach the final before losing to Algeria.
