Stroman says Blue Jays haven't approached him about extension

For much of the 2019 season, it's seemed like a foregone conclusion that the Toronto Blue Jays would trade right-handed starter Marcus Stroman before the July 31 deadline.

That notion was somewhat challenged Thursday when a report surfaced stating the Blue Jays may sign him to a contract extension, instead.

Stroman, however, says the idea of an extension has not yet been broached, at least not to him directly.

After allowing one run over seven innings of work Wednesday - in what may have been his last start in a Blue Jays uniform - Stroman said he's come to terms with the idea of being dealt, even though he's been vocal about his desire to stay in Toronto.

He added that the team's front office has not shown any willingness to sign him long term. And based on his tweet Friday, that doesn't seem to have changed.

If the Blue Jays do decide to make a trade, they will have plenty of interested parties. The New York Yankees, Minnesota Twins, and Philadelphia Phillies have already been identified as potential suitors for the 28-year-old's services.
