The NCAA has suspended DePaul head coach Dave Leitao for three games and placed the program on probation for three years due to recruiting violations, the association announced on Tuesday.

A former associate head coach violated NCAA ethical conduct rules when he guided a former program director to provide benefits to a recruit, and Leitao was found guilty of not preventing that infraction.

"The membership requires proactive engagement from head coaches as leaders of programs," the NCAA said in a statement. "The head coach created an environment where staff members did not report violations or consult with the compliance staff but chose to remain silent. The head coach simply did not ensure a compliant program."

The NCAA will also enforce recruiting restrictions on the program, and fine the Blue Demons $5,000 plus one percent of the men's basketball program budget.
