'Pawn Stars' helps ex-Redskins lineman Mark May find stolen SB rings

Former Washington Redskins offensive lineman Mark May has recovered his stolen Super Bowl rings thanks to some help from the popular television show "Pawn Stars."

The rings, which May won as a member of Washington's 1983 and 1988 championship teams, went missing while he was staying at a hotel in Scottsdale during a charity event in February, according to Joe Enea and Shane Dale of ABC 15. Staff later located the rings with some of May's watches in a room safe he used, and brought the items to the hotel's lead engineer, 43-year-old Marcel Behnert.

Police received a call earlier in July from Gold & Silver Pawn Shop - the Las Vegas shop featured on "Pawn Stars" - and learned that Behnert tried to sell the rings for $12,000.

"I asked the pawnbroker how much the guy was looking for, and he told me the amount, and my first reaction was, 'Each?' And he goes, 'No, for both of them,'" Gold & Silver general manager Andy Zimmerman said.

"Given what he was looking for, I thought that doesn't have a good sign to it. So I told my pawnbroker, go back out there and counter, and see what he does. We countered at a lower price, and he accepted it, which led me to believe even further that there was a problem."

Behnert was arrested and charged with theft and trafficking in stolen property.

"The bottom line of the story is the integrity of the guys on Pawn Stars for what they do and their due diligence," May said. "When you watch their show, they say, 'If you don't have proof, we don't want it.'"
