The New Orleans Pelicans acquired power forward Derrick Favors from the Utah Jazz for draft picks, sources told The Athletic's Tony Jones.

Those picks will be in the second round of the 2021 and 2023 drafts, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. The Pelicans originally acquired those picks from the Golden State Warriors in a draft-day deal for the rights to 2019 prospect Alen Smailagic.

Favors' contract for next season is only guaranteed if he's not waived before July 5. Sunday's trade means Favors will avoid free agency while joining a favorable situation for him in New Orleans. He's owed $16 million next season.

Favors joins a frontcourt that features rookie Zion Williamson.
