De Randamie vs. Ladd will headline UFC Sacramento
Germaine de Randamie will battle Aspen Ladd in the main event of UFC Sacramento on July 13, the UFC announced Wednesday.
De Ramdamie (8-3) captured the vacant 145-pound title in February 2017 after defeating Holly Holm in a controversial decision victory at UFC 208. "The Iron Lady" later vacated her title and dropped back down to the bantamweight division, where she most recently defeated Raquel Pennington by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 139 in November. The 35-year-old boasts a 5-1 record in the Octagon, with her lone blemish coming against two-division UFC champion Amanda Nunes in November 2013.
Ladd (8-0) fought earlier this month at UFC Rochester, defeating Sijara Eubanks in their rematch. The 24-year-old has amassed three straight wins in the UFC, including a first-round finish over former Invicta FC champion Tonya Evinger.
This is the second time Ladd has earned a marquee opportunity in the bantamweight division. Earlier this year, the California native was scheduled to face Holm, the former 135-pound champion, at UFC 235 before the matchup was pulled from the card.
The women's bantamweight showdown between de Randamie and Ladd comes as somewhat of a surprise after Sacramento native and UFC Hall of Famer Urijah Faber announced he's ending his retirement to compete on this card. Faber (34-10) battles rising prospect Ricky Simon (15-1) in the bantamweight division.
