Report: Lakers to interview ex-Grizzlies coach Bickerstaff
The Los Angeles Lakers will interview former Memphis Grizzlies head coach J.B. Bickerstaff on Friday, sources told the Los Angeles Times' Brad Turner.
Bickerstaff spent parts of two seasons with Memphis, initially as interim head coach before being promoted to the full-time position last May. He was fired after his first full season on the Grizzlies' bench after compiling a 33-49 record.
Including a stint as the interim head coach of the Houston Rockets during the 2015-16 campaign, Bickerstaff has amassed an 85-131 record in the regular season.
The Lakers appeared to be on track to sign Tyronn Lue to fill the vacant head coach position previously held by Luke Walton for the past three seasons. However, the deal reportedly fell apart when Lue declined a three-year, $18-million offer - one that would've coincided with the length of LeBron James' remaining contract.
With the possibility of reuniting James with his former Cleveland Cavaliers coach evidently dead in the water, the Lakers have reportedly turned their gaze to several veteran bench bosses. The Athletic's Shams Charania reported on Wednesday that the team has also added Frank Vogel, Lionel Hollins, and Mike Woodson to its shortlist of free-agent coaches.
