Monday Scorecard: DJ's collapse opens door for Pan's feel-good win

"Monday Scorecard" is a look back at the biggest stories from the golf world over the past seven days.

Dustin Johnson looked poised to cruise to his 21st PGA Tour victory at the RBC Heritage on Sunday but carded a disastrous 6-over 77 to relinquish his 54-hole lead and fall into a tie for 28th. Johnson was within striking distance for most of the final round until going 7-over through a five-hole stretch on the back nine to fall well out of contention.

Sundays have proven problematic for Johnson in the past, especially when entering the day with the lead.

Score: Bogey. Keep DJ's Sunday struggles in mind whenever he looks guaranteed to saunter toward victory.

Pan claims 1st win

Johnson's stumble opened the door for C.T. Pan to claim his first victory with a final-round 67, joining T.C. Chen as the only players from Chinese Taipei to win on the PGA Tour. The 27-year-old nearly won the 2018 Wyndham Championship with his wife, Michelle, as his caddie, where a costly double-bogey on the final hole proved to be valuable in his breakthrough win at Harbour Town.

"It definitely changed my perception on the last couple of holes down the stretch of what I should do," he said, according to the PGA Tour’s Helen Ross. "The last three holes I would say I played really well here, a lot of good shots just because I told myself I need to focus on the details, the little things, and just stay in present."

His wife wasn’t present for his win at Harbour Town, as she was hosting Pan’s junior golf event in Houston. She did talk him into playing the RBC Heritage despite his recent struggles and encouraged him after "not being happy" with her husband's third round.

His late father introduced him to golf and saw his talents at a young age. Pan is a huge Tiger Woods fan and would stay up late with his father to watch him dominate in the early 2000s. His dad hoped he could witness the same for Pan.

"My dad would tell me, 'Hey, I want you one day to do that for me,'" Pan said, according to Golf.com's Josh Berhow. "And dad, finally, we’ve done it."

Score: Eagle. Wins like Pan's and Corey Conners' from two weeks ago make the PGA Tour special. They are life-changing moments that mean so much to a player and their families due, in part, to the job security that comes with a two-year exemption.

Henderson makes history

Brooke Henderson etched her name in Canadian golf history by winning the Lotte Championship at Ko Olina Golf Club in Hawaii. Her four-shot victory marks the 21-year-old's eighth LPGA title and ties her for the most professional golf wins by a Canadian, joining Sandra Post, former Masters champion Mike Weir, and George Knudson.

Score: Birdie. Henderson is only getting started on the LPGA Tour, and already boasting eight wins, she's well on her way to becoming an all-time great and potentially the best golfer Canada has ever produced.

Tiger spotted in green

Tiger Woods was spotted for the first time since his Masters win, donning his newly minted green jacket at his restaurant in Jupiter, Fla. Instead of rocking a red mock neck to complete the look, Woods opted for a different Nike shirt and Oakland Raiders gym shorts.

In more post-Masters fallout, a flip-book recently surfaced commemorating Tiger's wins at Augusta, 22 years apart.

Score: Birdie. Tiger is certainly taking the been-there-done-that attitude when others appear on seemingly every talk show in America or sit courtside at NBA games in the green jacket.

Bhatia continues to make noise

Junior golf phenom Akshay Bhatia qualified into the Web.com Tour's event last week and managed to make the cut. The 17-year-old fired two rounds of 2-under 70 en route to a T-42 finish; not bad for only his second start in a professional tournament. He was granted a sponsor's exemption into the PGA Tour's Valspar Championship in March but failed to make the weekend.

Score: Par. Bhatia will be frequently discussed for years to come, especially with his decision to skip college and turn pro after his 18th birthday in January.
