Philadelphia 76ers assistant Monty Williams has reportedly emerged as a top candidate for the Los Angeles Lakers' head coaching vacancy, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Lakers management will travel east to meet with Williams between Games 2 and 3 of the Brooklyn Nets-76ers playoff series, Wojnarowski adds.

Williams was previously reported to be an option to replace Luke Walton, along with former Cleveland Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue. ESPN's Ramona Shelburne reported Sunday that the Lakers have also received permission to speak with Miami Heat assistant coach Juwan Howard.

The 47-year-old Williams is completing his first season as an assistant in Philadelphia. He spent five seasons as the head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans before working as an assistant for the Oklahoma City Thunder and then in a front-office capacity for the San Antonio Spurs.
