Tyronn Lue and Monty Williams are leading candidates to replace Luke Walton as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne.

Walton and the Lakers parted ways Friday after a turbulent season that saw the purple and gold miss the playoffs for the sixth straight year.

Lue has history with LeBron James, having coached him with the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2016-18, and winning an NBA title in his first season on the job. He also spent the first three seasons of his playing career with the Lakers, from 1998-2001.

The Lakers have reportedly reached out to Lue and are expected to meet with him next week, league sources told Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes.

Williams hasn't worked as a head coach since 2015 with the New Orleans Pelicans and is currently an assistant with the Philadelphia 76ers. The Lakers were reportedly granted permission to meet with him and discuss their vacant coaching job, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka will run the coaching search, according to Shelburne.
