Phil Mickelson will take a test drive at TPC Sawgrass next week to determine whether he'll participate at The Players.

"It just depends on the set-up and what I see," Mickelson said, per Joe Beall of Golf Digest. "I'm definitely 50-50. But if I don't play, then I will add something else."

Mickelson will play nine practice holes on Tuesday to make his final decision.

In February, Mickelson said The Players isn't a "must-play" for him, citing the fact he's played it 25 times in his career and won it in 2007. He also said after the Ryder Cup that he's finished playing courses that feature thick rough - his main gripe with participating next week.

The 48-year-old has enjoyed a solid year to date, winning the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am along with a runner-up at the Desert Classic. If Mickelson does play at Sawgrass, he won't be going in with any sort of momentum, after a 68-78 start forced him to miss the cut at the Arnold Palmer Invitational this week.
