Knicks fans shower Irving with 'We want Kyrie' chants
New York Knicks fans are doing their part in recruiting Kyrie Irving, chanting "We want Kyrie" during the Boston Celtics' 113-99 win at Madison Square Garden on Friday.
Several hours before the game, Irving told reporters, "I don't owe anybody s---," sparking rumors of the six-time All-Star's interest in spurning the Celtics when he hits the free-agent market in July. Irving verbally committed to Boston prior to the season, but has seemingly backtracked on his initial desire to re-sign.
The Knicks (10-40) freed up two max-contract spots for the upcoming summer Thursday after sending injured center Kristaps Porzingis and the multi-year deals of Tim Hardaway Jr. and Courtney Lee to the Dallas Mavericks for sophomore guard Dennis Smith Jr. and the expiring contracts of DeAndre Jordan and Wesley Matthews.
Irving finished with 23 points, six rebounds, and 10 assists in his final game at the Garden this season.
