Though New Orleans Pelicans big man Anthony Davis still prefers to be traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, the New York Knicks have also emerged as a desired landing spot for the disgruntled superstar, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Davis' camp was expected to inform front offices that the prodigious center would not sign an extension if acquired by any team other than the Lakers.

It's unclear whether Davis' apparent openness to a Knicks trade extends to a willingness to sign an extension with the team should he opt out of his current contract and hit unrestricted free agency after the 2019-20 season.

The Knicks' short-term outlook has changed dramatically in the past day. Within hours of a reported meeting with the team's front office, Kristaps Porzingis was traded to the Dallas Mavericks.

When the dust had settled, Porzingis, guard Tim Hardaway Jr., and wing Courtney Lee were all Texas-bound while guard Dennis Smith Jr., center DeAndre Jordan, wing Wesley Matthews, and a pair of future first-round draft picks were headed to the Big Apple.

By jettisoning highly-compensated veterans and a soon-to-be expensive star in Porzingis, the Knicks aren't far from having the cap space to add multiple maximum-contract players this offseason. The team has been linked to the Golden State Warriors' Kevin Durant and Boston Celtics guard Kyrie Irving - both impending free agents - in recent months.
