Report: City insert anti-United clause in Brahim Diaz's deal with Real Madrid

Manchester City would be entitled to 40 percent of any transfer fee if prospective Real Madrid signing Brahim Diaz is ever resold to Manchester United, the Guardian's Jamie Jackson reports.

City reportedly agreed to sell academy product Diaz to Madrid for up to £22 million, including add-ons, but only with assurances that the 19-year-old won't be repackaged in a future deal with rivals United. The sell-on clause would be activated if Diaz moves to "any other Manchester club," according to Jackson.

Although City are set to lose another talented youngster, the reigning Premier League champions are believed to be "delighted" with the windfall for a player who's out of contract in six months. It's more than what they received for Jadon Sancho, who's blossoming at Borussia Dortmund after leaving Eastlands in 2017 for a reported £8 million.

A lack of first-team minutes apparently drove Diaz to Madrid, who've shown more patience with young players in recent years. He failed to make a single Premier League appearance in the first half of the 2018-19 campaign but impressed in a 2-0 win over Fulham in League Cup action.

The exodus of promising youth players from City is putting pressure on manager Pep Guardiola to promote Greater Manchester native Phil Foden to the first team. Guardiola hailed Foden's attacking qualities on several occasions and touted the 18-year-old for a call-up to the English national team in September.

Guardiola urged Diaz to stay in November but ultimately left the decision to the player.
