The Philadelphia Phillies are not out of the running for free-agent infielder Manny Machado after reportedly completing a deal to acquire shortstop Jean Segura from the Seattle Mariners, according to Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia.

Despite acquiring a two-time All-Star to play shortstop Monday, the Phillies are reportedly still committed to pursuing Machado with hopes of returning him to third base - the position he played when he won a pair of Gold Gloves.

Philadelphia has been rumored to be in on the four-time All-Star since the beginning of the offseason with ownership willing to spend recklessly in pursuit of top free agents like Bryce Harper, Patrick Corbin, and Craig Kimbrel.

Machado shifted back to his natural position of shortstop this past campaign after spending the majority of his first seven seasons with the Baltimore Orioles at third base. Averaging nearly 15 runs saved per year over the past six full seasons at the hot corner, the 26-year-old was worth minus-13 DRS at shortstop between the Orioles and Los Angeles Dodgers.

By comparison, the 28-year-old Segura has been a roughly league-average shortstop by both DRS (2) and ultimate zone rating (minus-2.9) since joining the Mariners prior to the 2017 season, according to FanGraphs.
