Report: Cavs could sit Love for extended period due to foot injury

The Cleveland Cavaliers are considering sitting Kevin Love for an extended period of time as he deals with persistent foot soreness, sources told The New York Times' Marc Stein.

That period could be more than a month, league sources told ESPN's Brian Windhorst and Adrian Wojnarowski, who add that Love has an injured toe on his left foot.

An extended absence for the power forward is a possibility unless the Cavaliers can determine a speedier treatment course, according to Stein. A firm timetable on his return isn't expected before Monday or Tuesday.

Love has missed the last two games with the foot issue, and Cleveland remains winless on the season.

The development comes the same day the team fired head coach Tyronn Lue, a move that reportedly angered several Cavs players. Lue's dismissal was reportedly in part due to his preference for his veterans over the Cavs' youngsters. Should Cleveland decide to pursue a full youth movement this season, Love would likely end up on the trading block. However, because the Cavs signed him to a five-year contract extension in July, they can't deal him until Jan. 23.

Love has shot terribly despite averaging a double-double through four games, connecting on just 32.3 percent of his field goal attempts - including 29 percent from beyond the arc. Cleveland has yet to lead at halftime or in the second half of a game this season.
