Ball won't be ready for 5-on-5 scrimmages when training camp opens
Lonzo Ball won't be ready to play in five-on-five scrimmages once Los Angeles Lakers training camp opens next week, head coach Luke Walton told Mike Bresnahan of Spectrum SportsNet.
Walton said Ball has engaged in one-on-one drills, but the team won't rush him back, Bresnahan added.
The development is a setback for Ball, as the team announced he'd make a full recovery in time for training camp after he underwent left knee surgery in July.
While Laker fans are surely clamoring to see how the 20-year-old will look alongside LeBron James, Rajon Rondo will step in as the team's starting point guard should his absence extend into the preseason.
Ball averaged 10.2 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.9 rebounds on 36 percent shooting from the field in 52 games last season.
