Red Star Belgrade sanctioned for racist chants

Lausanne, Aug 10, 2018 (AFP) - Red Star Belgrade were ordered to play two home European matches behind closed doors by UEFA on Friday as punishment for racist chanting by their supporters.

UEFA's disciplinary commission issued the sanction for the racism displayed in the 3-0 win over Suduva of Lithuania in a Champions League qualifier in July.

On Tuesday, they drew 1-1 at home against Spartak Trnava in the first leg of their third qualifying round clash in the same tournament.

UEFA also decided to enforce an earlier sanction against the club and order Red Star "to play one additional UEFA competition match as host club behind closed doors."

The club were also fined 72,000 euros.
