Sonny Gray didn't let a Bronx cheer and some boos get the best of him.
The much-maligned New York Yankees starter was hammered by the last-place Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday, allowing seven runs off eight hits and two walks over 2 2/3 innings. As manager Aaron Boone came out of the dugout and made the walk to the mound, he was greeted by loud cheers from the fans. Upon being removed from the game, Gray exited to loud boos, which brought out a smile from the right-hander.
Gray entered the day with a 5.08 ERA over 20 starts, but he had been much better of late. Over his last three outings, he crafted a 1.10 ERA and appeared to be back on track before stumbling against the Orioles.
