The lead-up to Alabama's 2018 season will be dominated by the question of who will be under center for the opening game: Jalen Hurts or Tua Tagovailoa.

Head coach Nick Saban declined to comment on the quarterback battle Wednesday, saying "it's still to be determined," according to Stewart Mandel of The Athletic. When pressed, however, Saban added he has "no idea" if Hurts will be on the team's opening-day roster.

Hurts led the team for the past two seasons, earning the SEC Offensive Player of the Year award in 2016.

However, he struggled in last season's playoffs and had to watch from the sidelines as freshman Tagovailoa led Alabama to the national championship and won MVP honors in a come-from-behind win against Georgia.

Tagovailoa missed most of spring practice due to a thumb injury, leaving the door open for Hurts. But the junior quarterback struggled in a spring game defeat and was outplayed by Redshirt freshman Mac Jones.
