Tottenham Hotspur has been relatively quiet in the summer transfer market thus far, but appears to have earmarked a primary attacking target.

According to the Telegraph's Luke Edwards, Spurs are vying for the signature of Nice star Alassane Plea, who scored 21 goals in all competitions for the Ligue 1 side last season.

Plea is 25, but still a nascent talent. A former France youth international, his role for Nice - and his goals return - has steadily grown each season since his move from Lyon in 2014.

That has been reflected in his club's valuation, as Nice are apparently looking for £27 million in exchange for allowing the forward, who can play centrally or as a winger, to depart.

According to Edwards, Mauricio Pochettino's side has spied an opportunity to move for Plea after Premier League rival Newcastle United dithered over the fee.

The north London side can offer Champions League group-stage football to any new arrivals this summer, which could be a crucial advantage over its rivals. German club Borussia Monchengladbach, which did not qualify for European football of any kind next season, is also thought to be interested.
