Neymar: Criticism from opponents is 'an attempt to undermine me'

Neymar, perhaps unsurprisingly, was the subject of more criticism Monday.

After he took a number of rather dramatic tumbles to the turf in a 2-0 World Cup last-16 win over Mexico, El Tri boss Juan Carlos Osorio described one unnamed Brazil player's actions as "shameful" and "clowning around."

Though Osorio didn't specify which opponent he was talking about, Neymar appears to have taken umbrage.

"I think it's more an attempt to undermine me than anything else," the PSG star said in response, as reported by the Guardian's Jonathan Wilson.

"I don't much care for criticism, not even for praise, because this can influence in a way the athlete's attitude. In the last two matches, I didn't talk to the press because there are too many people talking, getting excited. I don't know if they're showing off. I am here to win with my teammates."

While this World Cup has produced no shortage of remarkable events, Neymar accusing others of showing off is particularly eyebrow-raising, considering the striker's theatrics at the tournament have made more headlines thus far than his performances.

The 26-year-old has scored twice in Russia, once each against Costa Rica and Osorio's Mexico.
