After being held out of the lineup Monday for a third straight day, Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday due to left shoulder inflammation.
For Bryant, who was deemed day to day by Cubs manager Joe Maddon on Monday, this is his first career stint on the DL. He will be eligible to return for next Tuesday's series opener against the Detroit Tigers.
Bryant, a two-time All-Star and the 2016 National League MVP, is in the midst of another strong season, having accrued 2.3 WAR while hitting .280/.383/.481 (129 OPS+) with nine home runs, 20 doubles, and three triples through 66 games.
To take Bryant's spot on the active roster, the Cubs recalled infielder David Bote from Triple-A Iowa.
