The two most appealing starting pitchers no longer appear to be on the trade market.

With the non-waiver trade deadline three weeks away, the New York Mets are reportedly expecting to hold on to both Noah Syndergaard and Jacob deGrom for the rest of the season, sources told Andy Martino of SNY, and they're more focused on moving Steven Matz and Zack Wheeler.

Pitcher IP ERA WHIP SO
deGrom 107.1 1.84 1.02 134
Matz 83.1 3.46 1.22 76
Wheeler 95 4.36 1.31 91
Syndergaard 64.2 3.06 1.18 76

The Mets said last month they are listening to offers on anyone. But inquiring teams are hearing the two All-Star right-handers aren't really available, according to Martino.

Any trade to acquire either deGrom or Syndergaard would have come with a substantial cost. deGrom is having a Cy Young-caliber year and is under team control through the 2020 season. Syndergaard, meanwhile, doesn't hit free agency until after 2021, and he's currently on the disabled list.

Martino adds that the Mets would prefer to move Syndergaard when he's healthy and pitching well to guarantee the maximum return, and the 25-year-old could be dealt during the offseason.
