Perhaps seeing Kobe Bryant win an Academy Award earlier this year has inspired LeBron James to explore his own inner auteur. HBO announced a forthcoming documentary entitled "Student Athlete," which will delve into "the exploitative world of high-revenue college sports."

James is listed as the project's executive producer, while the documentary is slated to premiere on Oct. 2.

The project will be co-directed by two-time Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Trish Dalton, HBO announced in a press release.

Of course, James himself did not attend college, going straight from St. Mary-St. Vincent High School to the No. 1 pick in the 2003 NBA Draft. It would not appear that his decision to eschew a year of playing in the NCAA has adversely impacted his earning potential or his personal growth.
