Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier will square off against each other on July 28 in Calgary, MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani reports.

Alvarez appeared to confirm the fight Thursday morning and both parties agreed to the contest later in the evening, Helwani adds.

There was a previous holdup leading up to the fight confirmation, with Alvarez previously stating he wouldn't fight until he received a new deal from the UFC. It appears that point has been rendered moot.

Poirier was reportedly unhappy about how long it took for the fight to come to fruition, but both parties have been appeased prior to the July showdown.

Alvarez, who sports a 29-5(1) record, defeated Justin Gaethje in his last contest at UFC 218, knocking him out with his knee during the third round. For his effort, Alvarez was awarded Fight of the Night honors.

Poirier defeated Gaethje in his last bout as well, winning via TKO (punches) in the fourth round on April 14, also capturing Fight of the Night.
