White: Gustafsson-Rockhold in works for UFC 227, not for interim belt
UFC president Dana White announced on the "UFC Unfiltered" podcast that rumors of former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold moving up to light heavyweight to face Alexander Gustafsson are true, but the potential UFC 227 fight wouldn't be for the interim belt as speculated.
Gustafsson called for his next fight to be for the interim title in March, with current 205-pound champion Daniel Cormier preoccupied with a July superfight against heavyweight king Stipe Miocic.
Rockhold, meanwhile, has lost two of his last three fights, being knocked out by Yoel Romero and Michael Bisping. He has publicly flirted with the idea of moving up a weight class for years, and it appears he's finally ready to make the jump.
Gustafsson-Rockhold would be part of a potentially stacked card in Los Angeles. Bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw will face off again with Cody Garbrandt, while White said the UFC is hoping that Nate Diaz versus Georges St-Pierre will act as the co-main event.
