Dodgers 'cautiously optimistic' after Kershaw lands on DL with biceps tendonitis
The Los Angeles Dodgers have lost another star to injury.
Three-time Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw was placed on the 10-day disabled list Sunday due to biceps tendonitis. The club sent the left-hander back to Los Angeles where he will be examined by noted surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache.
"It just seems logical to get eyes on him as soon as possible," Dave Roberts said, according to Pedro Moura of The Athletic. "Certainly not ideal. We're cautiously optimistic. We're still hopeful."
Roberts said Kershaw began feeling some discomfort during his last start and didn't feel right while playing catch Saturday.
Kershaw has once again enjoyed a strong start to the season, though his numbers do skew a bit high by his standards: In seven starts, he's posted a 2.86 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 48 strikeouts.
One of the most durable starters in the majors from 2009-2015, Kershaw has now hit the DL in three consecutive seasons.
The Dodgers, who head into play Sunday at 15-18 and in fourth in the National League West, currently have Justin Turner, Corey Seager, Logan Forsythe, and Hyun-jin Ryu on the DL but are expected to get Rich Hill back in time to start Tuesday.
