A meeting with Dr. James Andrews is usually a bad sign for a pitcher, which could be terrible news for the San Francisco Giants and right-hander Johnny Cueto, who has booked an appointment.

Cueto will meet with the notable surgeon Monday to discuss his injured right elbow, according to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Manager Bruce Bochy says the 32-year-old, who landed on the disabled list with right elbow inflammation to begin May, is seeking multiple opinions about his injury.

"I know he's anxious to see Dr. Andrews too to see what he's going to do, what kind of rehab," Bochy explained.

Meetings with Dr. Andrews, a specialist in repairing damaged ligaments, are usually the precursor to Tommy John surgery.

If the surgery were to take place, it would cost Cueto the rest of this season and likely a portion of the 2019 campaign.

The Giants haven't commented on the results of Cueto's MRI that took place in San Francisco.

Cueto was a perfect 3-0 in five starts with an 0.84 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 32 innings before suffering the injury.
