Darren Moore: Ill-timed Baggies saviour

West Bromwich Albion supporters are making plans for the second tier wondering What If? What if Darren Moore had been appointed Baggies caretaker sooner than April 2, would the Premier League bottom dwellers have pulled off a miracle escape?

Hindsight is a cruel companion for the West Brom faithful as Moore's inspired late-season charge has come too late. Under Alan Pardew's interim replacement, the Baggies have registered eight points in four unbeaten matches that includes 1-0 victories at Manchester United and Saturday at Newcastle.

Two wins in four is more than Pardew and Co. amassed in West Brom's previous 18 outings, though it doesn't appear to be enough as the West Midlands' lot sit five points adrift of Swansea City and safety, with the south Wales outfit holding a match in hand.

Kids are alright, despite dire away record

Courtesy of Marouane Fellaini's last-gasp blind header, Arsene Wenger and Arsenal slumped to another defeat at Old Trafford, extending a dismal run of six straight league losses away from home that included poor showings at Swansea, Brighton, and Newcastle.

That startling statistic aside, and Arsenal were quite good on Sunday with a makeshift second-choice squad ahead of Thursday's pivotal Europa League decider at Atletico Madrid.

German scouting savant Sven Mislintat's first signing, centre-half Konstantinos Mavropanos, was stellar in his maiden league start, displaying heaps of poise and positional awareness alongside Calum Chambers. Pair that with a mature performance from fellow 20-year-old Ainsley Maitland-Niles in a preferred central midfield role and flashes from teen Reiss Nelson and an uptick in Alex Iwobi's form, and it appears that the future may be bright with the north Londoners.

City hits century

Manchester City's impressive title-winning campaign continued Sunday at the London Stadium, and for the second match on the bounce, West Ham was on the wrong side of a 4-1 scoreline.

Pep Guardiola's charges became the third side in the Premier League era to score 100 or more goals, joining Chelsea (103, 2009-10) and Liverpool (101, 2013-14). It's the second time City has accomplished the feat, having done so for the first time in 2013-14 by scoring 102 goals. By hitting the century mark in 35 matches this season, City becomes the quickest team to hit triple digits in the history of the top flight since Everton accomplished it in just 32 matches in 1931-32.

The result was also City's 30th Premier League victory of the season, matching Chelsea's 2016-17 record for wins in a 38-match campaign. Visits from top-flight debutants Huddersfield and Brighton and a trip to relegation fodder Southampton to round out the year should see the club smash the Blues' short-standing standard.

Around the grounds

Crystal Palace 5-0 Leicester City: Local boy Roy Hodgson has all but pulled off a Crystal Palace coup in keeping the Eagles in the Premier League despite kicking-off the season with a record seven defeats on the skip. Croydon-born Hodgson owes much of it to lightning-quick winger Wilfried Zaha, who was at his best on Saturday at Selhurst Park, chipping in with a goal and assist in the opening half before Palace bagged a treble in the final 10 minutes.

Swansea City 0-1 Chelsea: Antonio Conte's Blues kept their top-four hopes alive thanks to Cesc Fabregas' fourth-minute goal, making the former Arsenal star the third Spaniard to register 50 Premier League tallies (Fernando Torres, Diego Costa). With the win, Chelsea sits two back of fourth-placed Tottenham with three matches to play. Money still favours Spurs, who have a game in hand on their London rival.
