Golf Club of Houston will no longer host Houston Open

The Houston Open is now homeless, as the Houston Golf Association announced Wednesday that The Golf Club of Houston will no longer host the event.

"We received notice this week from The Golf Club of Houston regarding the club's decision to no longer host a PGA Tour event," the Houston Golf Association said in a statement.

The Golf Club of Houston had hosted the tournament since 2003. Wednesday's announcement comes a month after the 2018 Houston Open was played without a title sponsor for the first time in 15 years.

Not only is the Houston Open in need of a new course for 2019, but it will be played on a different week of the calendar as well.

The Texas Open is set to take over the week preceding the Masters in 2019, despite the Houston Open holding that calendar spot in 11 of the past 12 seasons.
