Tigers' Martin fouls ball off groin, homers 2 pitches later

This is not how Leonys Martin wanted to start 18 innings of baseball.

The Detroit Tigers outfielder had a rough start to his team's doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday. Just three pitches into the first game, Martin fouled Jameson Taillon's pitch off the plate and right into his groin, sending him to the ground in obvious pain.

Martin needed several minutes on the ground while he was tended to, although there wasn't much that the Tigers trainer could do besides offer his sympathies.

But after gathering his breath, Martin bravely stepped back in the batter's box with nothing more than a bruised ego (we hope). Could he shake it off?

You bet. Just two pitches after getting clonked down there, Martin took Taillon deep to center field for a leadoff home run.

From a baseball in the groin to a round-tripper in mere seconds? This contest is over. Give Leonys Martin the $10,000.
