Milwaukee Brewers broadcaster and one-time MLB All-Star Davey Nelson died Monday at the age of 73 after battling a long illness, according to a Brewers press release.

Prior to joining the Brewers in 2001 as a minor-league instructor and his eventual move to the organization's broadcast booth in 2006, Nelson played 10 seasons of pro ball.

"Davey took every opportunity to turn a casual introduction into a lifelong relationship, and his legacy will live on in the positive impact he had on the lives of so many people," Brewers chief operating officer Rick Schlesinger said in the release. "Davey’s love of life and commitment to helping those in need were second to none, and we are so grateful for the time that we had with him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and all of those who loved him."

His death was hard to take for people on whom he left a lasting impression.

Nelson owned a lifetime slash line of .244/.305/.312 and hit .286 with 24 doubles, 48 RBIs, and 43 steals in his 1973 All-Star campaign with the Texas Rangers.
