Moncada encourages White Sox to trust the process

The first few weeks of the season have not been kind to the Chicago White Sox. After Sunday's 7-1 loss to the Houston Astros, Chicago's seventh straight defeat, the White Sox fell to 4-14 on the season.

Despite the sustained misery in the win-loss column, infielder Yoan Moncada says the team needs to be patient and take a page out of the Astros' book to weather the current storm.

"It's always good when you can see what other teams have done that have passed through this process. The Astros were at this point where we are now 4-5 years ago. I wouldn't say it's a motivation, but it's good to see. For us, it's a matter to keep confident," Moncada told MLB.com's Max Gelman through team interpreter Billy Russo.

It's true, the Astros weren't always world beaters. The defending World Series champions lost more than 100 games in three straight seasons from 2011 through 2013, and only went 70-92 the year after. Now, the Astros are coming off a championship season and are in a position to potentially become a dynasty.

Moncada has struggled at times, too. He's hit three home runs to date, but he's also struck out 33 times in 83 plate appearances.

The White Sox have a long road ahead of them, but they have acquired a bucketload of prospects like Moncada over the last few seasons. One of them sparkled Sunday, too.

Despite the loss, right-handed starter Reynaldo Lopez allowed only one run on four hits through five innings. On the season, Lopez has easily been the team's best starter. He may be winless at 0-2, but he has a 1.50 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 24 innings.
