Edgar gets back in win column with unanimous decision over Swanson

After losing via knockout on March 3, veteran featherweight Frankie Edgar got a much-needed confidence boost Saturday night, defeating Cub Swanson via unanimous decision at UFC Atlantic City.

It was the second time Edgar (23-6-1) defeated Swanson (25-9) after earning a dominant submission win over him in 2014. This fight wasn't as entertaining as the first, but considering the fast turnaround, the 36-year-old's victory was impressive.

The two fighters spent the majority of the opening round feeling each other out. Edgar appeared to get the edge, landing a few flurries of strikes, but neither veteran did much damage.

He tried to continue controlling the pace as the second round began, though both men struggled to gain an advantage. The New Jersey native had some success tagging Swanson with leg kicks, which appeared to be enough to win the round on the judges' scorecards.

Swanson was much more active at the start of the third frame than in the opening 10 minutes, but Edgar didn't slow down either. As Swanson looked to set up a finishing combo, Edgar kept pressing forward, not allowing for a lull that his opponent could capitalize on.

The New Jersey native fought with a heavy heart Saturday, after both his father and grandfather lost their lives in the weeks leading up to the bout.
