Report: Stan Van Gundy to meet with Pistons ownership about future role
Changes are coming.
Detroit Pistons team owner Tom Gores will meet with head coach and team president Stan Van Gundy to discuss his future role with the team, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Van Gundy is entering the last season of a five-year deal and has only guided the Pistons to one playoff appearance since he was hired in 2014. He was given carte blanche to pick his players but has failed to replicate the success he found while leading the Orlando Magic.
It would not be a surprise if the Pistons stripped Van Gundy of his front office powers, as reports already suggest that Detroit is interested in hiring Chauncey Billups.
As it currently stands, the Pistons won't have cap room until at least 2020, as the likes of Blake Griffin, Andre Drummond, Reggie Jackson, Jon Leuer, and Langston Galloway combine for over $90 million per season.
Van Gundy holds a pedestrian record of 152-176 as the head coach of the Pistons.
