Mike Budenholzer may not be staying with the Atlanta Hawks, after all.

The New York Knicks plan to talk to the Hawks coach about their head coaching vacancy, a league source told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Michael Cunningham.

Budenholzer reportedly met with the Phoenix Suns earlier this week to discuss their opening, but ultimately withdrew his candidacy.

The 2015 Coach of the Year has been manning the sidelines in Atlanta since 2013, accumulating a record of 213-197 (.520) in the regular season and 17-22 (.436) over four playoff runs. Prior to that, he spent 17 years as an assistant coach to Gregg Popovich on the San Antonio Spurs.

The Knicks are looking for a replacement for Jeff Hornacek, whom they fired after two losing years. The team has reportedly shown interest in (and in some cases, already interviewed) several candidates, including Jerry Stackhouse, David Fizdale, Mark Jackson, David Blatt, Mike Woodson, and Kenny Smith. New York hasn't qualified for the playoffs since 2013 and employed four different coaches over that span.
