Cavs owner Gilbert thanks LeBron in appreciative letter

There was no comic sans font this time around.

In stark opposition to the vitriolic screed penned in the wake of LeBron James' first departure from the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2010, team owner Dan Gilbert took a more measured, appreciative tone in thanking the organization's greatest player on the night his agency announced he was signing a four-year contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.

“We will always remember the evening of June 19, 2016 as the Cleveland Cavaliers, led by LeBron James, ended the 52-year drought delivering the long elusive championship that many thought they would never see ... A championship that united generations of Clevelanders, both living and passed," Gilbert's open letter begins.

The letter goes on to thank James for helping to deliver the 2016 title, all the good memories from his second stint with the team from 2014-18, and his on-going contributions to Akron, Cleveland, and Northeast Ohio overall. It also goes on to wish James, his children, wife, and mother good luck in the future.

"LeBron, you came home and delivered the ultimate goal. Nothing but appreciation and gratitude for everything you put into every moment you spent in a Cavaliers uniform," the letter concludes. "We look forward to the retirement of the famous No. 23 Cavs jersey one day down the line."
